Ayat-Ayat Ruqyah ini berdasarkan hadits dari Ubay bin Kaab ra, juga diriwayatkan dari Abdurahman bin Abu Laila yang diriwayatkan Ibn Majah dalam Sunannya (2/117) juga diriwayatkan Imam Hakim:
Hadits itu menceritakan seorang arab badui yang datang kepada Rasulullah ﷺ dan menceritakan bahwa saudaranya sedang sakit dan saat itu Rasulullah ﷺ bertanya; “Apa penyakit saudaramu?” Dia berkata; “Dia seperti orang gila (kesurupan)”. Dan beliau bersabda lagi; “Jemputlah dia dan bawa kemari”. Dan bapa itupun membawanya, kemudian Rasulullah ﷺ membacakan ayat-ayat berikut: Al Fatihah, Empat Ayat Awal Al Baqarah (1-4), Pertengahan Al Baqarah (163-164), Ayat Kursi (Al Baqarah 255), Tiga Ayat Akhir Al Baqarah (284-286), Al Imran 18, Al A’raaf 54-56, Al Mukminun (116-118), Al Jin 3, As Shafaat 1-10, Al Hasyr 22-24, Al Ikhlas, Al Falaq dan An Nass.
Dalam perkembangannya, ayat-ayat ruqyah standar tadi ditambahkan atau dilengkapi oleh para ulama yang berkompetent dalam ruqyah sbb:
Surah Al-fatihah, Al Baqarah: 1-5, 102-103, 163-164, 285-286. Al-Imran 18-19, Al-A’raaf 54-56, 117-122, Yunus 81-82, Taha 69, Al-Mukminin 115-118, As-Shaffat 1-10, Al-Ahqaf 29-32, ArRahman 33-36, Al-Hasyr 21-24, Al-Jin 1-9, Al-Ikhlas, Al Falaq dan An-Nas.
